CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER (DE) Noise / Experimental / Avant-Garde
Caspar Brötzmann Massaker

While Brötzmann typically performs with the power trio lineup of Massaker, with guitar, bass guitar and drum set, he only uses rock and roll and heavy metal music as a basis for his music. Brötzmann's technique has been praised: "...his attack on the instrument "explosive, obstreperous, large scale, textural," timbral asserts the material facts of string-pickup-amplifier more bluntly than anyone else currently involved in rock".

Brötzmann has been compared to Jimi Hendrix (perhaps an inevitable comparison for an adventurous left-handed Fender Stratocaster player prone to extreme loudness and deft manipulation of audio feedback), and to Edgard Varèse, who, like Brötzmann, demonstrated a keen awareness for the importance of sound as well as properly notated music.

Brötzmann's father, Peter Brötzmann, is a free jazz saxophone player. They have recorded a duo album, Last Home.

EUGENE CHADBOURNE (US) Avant-Garde / Experimental / Country
Eugene Chadbourne

Eugene Chadbourne (4 January 1951 in Mount Vernon, NY) is a USA composer, improvisor, guitarist and banjoist. He has also been a reviewer for the All Music Guide (AMG), and a contributor to Maximum RocknRoll.   He is also known as the inventor of the electric rake. This musical instrument (though some would hesitate to call it “musical”) is made by attaching a microphone or an electric guitar pickup to an ordinary lawn rake. The sounds that it can produce are impossible to describe.    Chadbourne started out playing rock and roll guitar, but quickly grew bored with the form’s conventions. He started studying other genres, including blues, country, bluegrass, free jazz, and noise - eventually synthesizing all those heterogenous influences into a unique style of his own. He was also influenced early on by the experimental stylings of Captain Beefheart and the Mothers of Invention.   Chadbourne has worked with numerous artists including John Zorn, Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Carla Bley Band, Paul Lovens, Camper Van Beethoven, Jello Biafra, and Jimmy Carl Black.   While in Canada in the 1970s, he produced and hosted a radio program on Radio Radio 104.5 Cable FM in Calgary, Alberta. His show was notorious for obscure and remarkable music. Radio Radio is now the last quasi-pirate station in Canada.   Chadbourne also fronted Shockabilly (1982-1985) with Mark Kramer (bass/organ) and David Licht (drums), releasing four eclectic albums.
