Hugo Race & The True Spirit
Hugo Race & The True Spirit
Legendary Australian cult rock musician Hugo Race returns to Belgium with his original band 'the True Spirit' to perform their critically-acclaimed new album 'The Spirit' which marks the band's return to the psychedelic rock roots once appropriately designated by Melody Maker as 'Industrial Trance Blues'. Formerly of 'Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds', and an important component of 'Long Distance Operators' - a project initiated by Belgian violinist Catherine Graindorge - Hugo Race will be presenting the band's 12th studio album, 'The Spirit', which was produced between his hometown of Melbourne and Los Angeles, over a period of three years. Recorded with the same line-up (Michelangelo Russo - Electronics, Bryan Colechin - Bass, Brett Poli Ness - drums and percussion, Nico Mansy - Keys) as such albums as Gold Street Sessions (2003), Taoist Priests (2006) and 53rd State (2008),  'The Spirit' is a highly addictive album from an underground legend who has never been better than today.   'The Spirit is not only a confirmation of originality and high artistic value, but also one of the most fascinating chapters in what is already a long story. Absolutely recommended.'  Buscadero, Italia   'A darkly singular experience then, and one of the best records he's ever made...'  Q, London   'Hugo Race's new album sounds like the soundtrack to a movie I would really like to see. I imagine a mixture of Twin Peaks and True Blood... dramatic, intense, cinematic.'  Kulturbloggen.com, Denmark   'This voyager without frontiers advances through a menacing atmosphere of no-wave electroacoustics. There is the spirit here, and it doesn't forget the body and the soul...'  Rock and Folk, Paris.   'No one else makes music quite like this, and that in itself is an achievement...' Focus Kultur, Germany   'The clash of rough and raw emotional sound is a highlight - nothing is fake or false here .... You can hear the sincerity and artistic maturity, which does not look at the trends and fashion, but consistently goes its own way.'  E-Splot, Poland   '(...) as if Howlin' Wolf had just jumped out of his grave, dusted his suit, and picked up the guitar.'
