ZS "creates conceptual art objects that set form and content against each other" - New York Times

Zs was founded in 2000 and has existed as a trio, sextet, and quartet, now solidifying into the trio formation of Sam Hillmer (tenor saxophone), Patrick Higgins (guitar/electronics), and Greg Fox (drums). While our music has been variously categorized as no-wave, brutal-prog, and post-minimalist, Zs is primarily concerned with making music that challenges the physical and mental limitations of both performer and listener. Manipulating extended technique, unique instrumental synthesis, and near telepathic communication, Zs aims to create works that envelop the listener and unfold sonically over time, evoking unspoken past, present, and future rites and ritual. Zs has performed in lofts, galleries, rock clubs, and concert halls across the United States, Europe and Japan, with The Locust, Gang Gang Dance, Animal Collective, Battles, The Dirty Projectors, Orthrelm, Octis, The Flying Luttenbachers, Behold... The Arctopus, Yellow Swans, Get Hustle, Dan Deacon, Aa, Marnie Stern, Peter Brotzman and Han Bennick, Joe Maneri, Christian Wolff, Louis Andriessen, and Petr Kotik, among many others. Zs has recorded for the Social Registry, Northern-Spy, 31G, Tzadik, Troubleman Unlimited, Planaria, Gilgongo, Sockets, Ricecontrol, and Zum record labels.

PRAIRIE (BE) Experimental / Mambo
Prairie

Prairies (/ˈprɛəri/) are ecosystems considered part of the temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands biome by ecologists, based on similar temperate climates, moderate rainfall, and a composition of grasses, herbs, and shrubs, rather than trees, as the dominant vegetation type. Temperate grassland regions include the Pampas of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay as well as the steppes of Eurasia. Lands typically referred to as "prairie" tend to be in North America.

ZOHO (BE) Noise / Experimental
Zoho

Tropic of Coldness

“Tropic of Coldness” is an Italian-American duo, who met by chance, or maybe not, in Brussels, Belgium during the autumn of 2011. David is a guitarist, synth and sample player, already active on the Brussels scene with his electro / experimental project “Drawing Virtual Gardens”. Giovanni plays guitar, voice and samples for the North- East Italian band “Fuji Apple Worship”, involved in a melting pot of drones, field recordings and minimal sound sculptures. Since its beginning in November 2011, Tropic of Coldness focused on drones / ambient / electro-acoustic originated from improvised session, with layers of processed guitars and synths, analogue and digital sounds, surrounded and filtrated by field recordings. The electronic texture is made of pulses and waves originated from the sound matter itself, in a sort of acoustic archaeology. A kind of latent and barely mentioned rhythm, that incorporates the harmonic variations and generates a final sound plot that is complex, evocative but never evanescent. The expressivity is measured but intense, it never leads to simple emotional and melodic solutions. The sound research permeates every single note and the harmonic pattern is oriented towards both instrumental and compositional exploration, in a combination of ambient and electronic elements. In a live context, Tropic of Coldness is a magmatic merge of sounds and visual suggestions, generating an evocative multimedia environment. "Commuting is a lonely et of songs that looks for catharsis, but never finds any. It's a reminder that even as much of the world turns to spring, some places and hearts are stuck in winter. And if the world leaves them behind, will they ever find their way to the light?" Richard Allen – A Closer Listen webzine.
